Have you decided to get a CRUSSIS E-bike? Congratulations! You're in for an unforgettable experience of swallowing miles with your new friend that can do a lot, it just needs to be looked after. Just like you take care of your health, your e-bike will appreciate regular care. It will reward you handsomely. But how do you choose the right one? You've got the frame size, the wheel size, the electric motors in the centre and rear hubs, the batteries like this and like that, the brakes, the gears... but how do you make sense of it all? Don't worry, it's not that big a deal. Let's do it.
The heart of the e-bike is of course the battery, without which the electric motor will not start and the e-bike becomes an ordinary bicycle. And it's the battery that you should pay close attention to, just like your heart. You won't regret it.
How to do it?
Charging the battery is not to be feared, on the contrary, it is rather desirable. Charge the battery ideally at room temperature and allow about 4 to 9 hours from zero to full charge, depending on the capacity of the battery and the charger used. Always use the charger supplied or recommended by the battery manufacturer. If you accidentally put more current into the battery, it may mean the end of the battery. Of course, if possible, do not leave the battery unattended for long periods of time while charging.
If you do not plan to ride the bike for a long time, charging is even necessary. We recommend charging the battery even when not using the bike about once a month and storing it at room temperature (around 20°C) charged to 50 - 80% capacity. If left completely discharged, the battery can be irreversibly damaged. Damage to the battery can result in a shorter range or, in the worst case, complete battery failure.
The e-bike battery is waterproof, but that doesn't mean it's waterproof. Of course, it can withstand bad weather and rain, but everything has its limits. In all-day rain, consider some kind of protective cover for the battery, avoid fords andwhen transporting the e-bike on the car, it is better to remove the battery and transport it separately. The battery connectors will then be exposed to the weather, and it is of course advisable to secure them against the rain, for example with plastic.
If you wash your bike, avoid high-pressure hoses. Clean the battery and connectors with a damp cloth and wipe all connectors thoroughly dry before putting the battery back into the bike.
Also be careful of mechanical damage to the battery when handling. Dropping the battery on the ground can damage the cells inside the battery or break their connection, which means only one thing - the end of the ride. So take great care when handling the battery.
And, of course, beware of extreme temperatures. When you go out for a pint at the pub on a trip that stretches into a day-long feast, make sure your e-bike is resting in the shade. Be sure not to leave the battery in direct summer sun for a few hours. Also, extreme winter temperatures are not ideal for the battery. Riding alone in the cold is not a problem, but the battery will logically last less. So take it with you to the pub for tea.
Electric bikes are generally ideally stored at room temperature. If you store your e-bike in an outdoor shed that is not insulated, it is ideal to remove the battery and store it separately at home. It will reward you handsomely.
The battery doesn't just power the e-bike, it can also serve your electrical devices. Through the display connector you can connect a mobile phone or a bike computer via USB, which will be recharged while riding. It's an additional function of some e-bikes, but a really nice one.
Proper care will extend the life of the battery, but even its train will reach its destination one day. Battery life is usually around 5-6 years. After that time, you will need to get a new battery or have the old battery reconditioned.
What to say in conclusion: take care of the heart of your electric bike as well as your heart. Both will pay off handsomely.
