How to choose the right e-bike?

Have you decided on an e-bike? Congratulations. It's a great choice, you won't regret it. But how to choose the right one? You've got the frame size, the wheel size, the electric motors in the middle and rear hub, the batteries like this and like that, the brakes, the gears... but how to know how to make sense of it all? Don't worry, it's not that big a deal. Let's do it.

Which e-bike do I need?

Start with this question. Will you want to ride around town, shopping now and then, to the pub for a lemonade and a coffin with whipped cream? Then shop around in the city e-bike category.

If you're into light touring in addition to the city, then a trekking e-bike will do the trick. These are sportier urban e-bikes that can easily handle gravel roads or dirt roads in addition to asphalt.

If you're into more sporty riding, you might like a cross bike. Compared to the trekking version, they have wider tyres and more gears. This makes them ideal for longer trips and more agile riding.

If you're mainly into off-road riding, then choose from the mountain e-bike category. A mountain e-bike can handle any terrain, so it's basically the most versatile choice. It will give you the most sporty ride where you won't have to worry about choosing a route. It can handle (almost) anything.

But if you're really serious about your e-bike and you're not afraid of rough terrain, look no further than the full-suspension e-bike category. With these electric bikes, you have absolutely no need to compromise and they'll take you over any surface.

Once you've chosen the right category, it's time to figure out which frame is the right one. But what size? Choosing the right frame size is crucial. Our table might help you. Even better than a table, however, is personal experience. We recommend trying out your dream e-bike first before you buy. Take it for a spin. That's the only way to find out if it really fits you.

If you are planning longer trips with your e-bike, the range of your e-bike will be crucial. This is influenced by a number of factors, the most important of which is the battery capacity. The higher the battery capacity, the further the e-bike will naturally go. The range of the most powerful batteries with 900 Wh can reach up to 200 km, and that's quite a trip.

In the vast majority of Crussis e-bikes, the battery is already fully integrated into the e-bike frame, which is not only elegant, but also a very practical and efficient solution.

Cheaper electric bike models have an electric motor in the rear hub. This is suitable for the city or light terrain, as you just need to turn the pedals freely and the bike goes. In contrast, the centre electric motors also sense the force you're pushing on the pedals and add power accordingly. It's a modern solution that is also ideal in terms of placing the motor in the centre of the e-bike, which gives the e-bike optimum rideability. With a centre-mounted electric motor, you don't have to worry about really tough terrain and big hills.

The e-bikes can be chosen with Bafang rear hub motors or Panasonic, Bosch Race, Bosch, Bafang or OLI centre motors, which are among the world leaders in this field.

Bottom line

If you're not sure which e-bike to choose, answer the questions in order. Then, of course, you'll have to figure out how much money you want to invest in your dream e-bike, and you'll narrow it down to a few models that are easy to choose from.
